Orange County

The seat of the more famous thematic park of the world, Disneyland. In addition to other amusement parks, hotels, shopping malls, the county also offers 67 charming kilometres of beaches and several towns in the zone of the Santa Ana Mountains.

Formerly an agricultural community, since Walt Disney decided to construct his first amusement park in Anaheim in 1955, millions of tourists have visited the region. Easily the most known attraction of the county, Disneyland continues being enormously popular. The magic kingdom reopened Tomorrowland in 1998, with new experiences from the 3D generation, with a high speed trip on the car-rocket of the future and an interactive pavilion among other attractions. Known as the city of the arts, Costa Mesa is the cultural centre of Orange County. There is the Centre of performance arts, with an ample variety of cultural arts, including theatre, classic ballet, opera and classic music, among others.

Here is the Mission of San Juan Capistrano, constructed in 1776 and recently recovered. It is the oldest historical attraction of California, and is famous by the annual sparrow migration in the day of the San Jose (19 March). The Los Ríos district offers some of the oldest stucco buildings of California, some still inhabited.

The most famous beaches of the county are Huntington -known as surf city and home of the greatest world-wide championship of the sport-, Newport -a retirement for the rich and famous-, and Laguna Beach and its charming coastal little town atmosphere.

It’s also possible to make a tour to the Catalina island, 40 kms. away of the Californian coast. There are companies that offer trips in transparent bottom boats that allow to see the bottom of the sea.
