Museum
of the City of San Francisco
The greatest exhibition room of the museum is in the City
Hall. By its collection it’s possible to follow
the history of the city since its beginnings as a Spanish
colony, to the place occupied as attraction centre during
the Gold Fever, as well as memorabilia of the 1906 Great
Earthquake and Fire, as well as photographs of the earthquake
that devastated the Marine District in 1989.
The central piece of the exhibition is the head of the
"Goddess of the Progress", a portion of the
statue that crowned the ceiling of the City Hall and was
destroyed by the 1906 earthquake.
