The
North Coast
Is the land of the reefs and the vineyards, and extends
from San Francisco to the limit with Oregon. In the region
is the Mendocino Lake and the Napa and Sonoma counties,
whose vineyards are known worldwide. But it’s not
only possible to enjoy visits to the vineyards but also
is a very attractive zone to make bicycle trips, practice
hiking or submarine and river fishing, and canoe rafting
by the rivers rapids. The Napa and Sonoma counties are
the most known wine regions in the United States, with
more than 200 wineries in which it’s possible to
make a tour with wines tasting.
In the town of Calistoga are thermal waters baths, geysers
and petrified forest. In Sonoma it’s possible to
visit the last Spanish mission -founded on 1823-, or the
coastal resort centre of Bodega Bay, location of the Fort
Ross, a Russian advance post of the 19th century. In the
Mendocino county is the Grace Hudson Museum, with a permanent
exhibition of devices and paintings of the native of the
zone, in addition to the city of Mendocino, created in
1850 as a lumber town and reconverted with time into a
prosperous artistic colony. The Redwood National Park
is in the Humboldt county, as well as the Avenue of the
Giants, a scenic stroll of 53 kms. where to practice hiking.
