Shasta Cascade
In the Northeast of the state is one of the most beautiful
and intact regions, full of cascades, rivers, forests,
lakes and mountains. Shasta Cascade, with a population
smaller to 250,000 people and a extension similar to the
Ohio state, has some of the most impressive landscapes
of California. Here can be seen glaciers, waterfalls,
crystalline rivers, alpine lakes and leafy forests.
The commune of Redding, in the borders of the Sacramento
river, is the centre of the region. 9 kms away is the
Shasta Historical Park, former establishment of Shasta
and centre of the 1849 gold fever. Towards the west of
the city are the Trinity Alps, with more than 50 lakes,
deep mountainous chains and valleys, all of an undeniable
beauty.
Mount Shasta is the second higher volcano of the country,
and offers great opportunities for hikers and skiers.
In this area is celebrated the greatest rodeo of the country,
the Red Bluff Rodeo, as well as the natural scene in which
were filmed Robin Hood -the version starred by Errol Flynn
in 1937-, and scenes of Gone with the wind, among other
films.
